The film is not forced metropolitan and hip, or campy out of emotional discomfort, but realistically light and casual in its sketch of a close-knit village community.

This story about family ties proves that audiences can really expect more from Dutch comedies. (...)
The film often dares to be complicated and discomforting, which speaks for the courage of its makers.
— Algemeen Dagblad
The debut of Jeroen Houben certainly feels like something new, the film just doesn’t shout it from the rooftops. Part of the innovation lies in the everyday set design. (...) Even more surprising is the patience with which the camera keeps watching its characters, and Benja Bruijning’s understated performance.
